In late 2014, officials from the state Department of Transportation said they expected the replacement of two bridges very close to each other in Pottsville and Palo Alto would be complete in fall 2016 instead of summer 2017.

According to the Republican Herald, Ronald J. Young Jr., press officer for PennDOT District 5, Allentown, announced a date for completion Monday morning.

The two bridges were deemed structurally deficit in 2001and the project to replace them began January 16, 2014. To maintain traffic during construction, the new four-lane bridges are being constructed in three sections.

Young said the new anticipated completion date is November 14, 2016. The original completion date was August 25, 2017.
