Two Auburn women were killed in a one-vehicle crash, earlier this week, on a California highway.
The California Highway Patrol Garberville station is investigating the crash that occurred about 9:45 a.m. on U.S. Route 101 southbound in northern California.
Police said that a 2004 Lincoln driven by a 21-year-old Auburn woman was traveling south when, for reasons still under investigation, she ran off the west side of the road.
The vehicle went down an embankment adjacent to the off ramp and struck a tree. The driver, along with a 52-year-old woman, also from Auburn, died from their injuries.
Officers did not identify either of the women pending identification by the coroner’s office.Three others were also taken to a hospital with major injuries.
Police said they were two Auburn girls, ages14 and 17, and 25 year old Angel Carrera, of Mexico.
Police said the driver of the Lincoln and Carrera were wearing seat belts, while the woman passenger and the two teenage girls were not.
