The family of a veteran killed in a two-vehicle crash in November 2014 in Cass Township has sued the Schuylkill County Department of Veterans Affairs and both the driver and owner of the truck involved.
According to the Republican Herald, the lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court by Donna Hurlbut, the daughter of Leonard R.Valitski, asking for unspecified monetary damages of more than $75,000, plus costs, from the VA department; Narwinder Singh, El Monte, California; and Singh’s employer, A&B Trucking Express Inc., Corona, California.
Police said Singh was driving east on Keystone Boulevard while 67 year old James R. Metzger, of Barnesville, was driving south on Highridge Park Road.
Metzger’s van slammed into the side of Singh’s truck. Metzger and another passenger in the van, 73 year old Elaine Bradley, of Tamaqua, died at the scene, while Valitski, of Mahanoy City, who was being driven to a doctor’s appointment, died Nov. 24, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Singh was unhurt.
Hurlbut is also demanding a jury trial of the case.
