A juvenile bald eagle is recovering at Red Creek Wildlife Center after being hit by a car in Hamburg on June 24.
According to the Republican Herald, the eagle is between 2 and 3 months old and was found at the bottom of a steep, 30-foot embankment along Route 61 north near the Hamburg sewage plant.
A motorist who witnessed the encounter called the center. Peggy Hentz, owner of Red Creek and a wildlife rehabilitator, said the eagle smashed the windshield of a car, leaving it with disabling damage.
Hentz said the eagle was likely just learning to fly and is expected to make a full recovery.
