Today marks the 49th anniversary of Apollo 11 landing on the moon and people in Pottsville can celebrate the anniversary by taking their own trip to the moon.
In 1960, President John F. Kennedy stopped in Pottsville on his campaign trail and stood outside of Pottsville's Garfield Diner.
A year later, as president, he pledged we would send a man to the moon and safely return him before the end of the decade, and in 1969, it happened. Now, in that exact spot, where he stood, a piece of moon rock, that came to earth through an asteroid, impact has been placed into the sidewalk.
A special moon rock dedication ceremony is being held today- on the anniversary of the moon landing - at 6 p.m. in Garfield Square in Pottsville.
