Students in the Pottsville Area School District will be paying more for daily lunches, after the Pottsville Area school board has agreed to raise lunch rates for the third year in a row.
According to the Republican Herald, Stephen C. Curran, the district’s business manager, said the reason is the federal government’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which is forcing school districts across the nation to raise hot lunch prices gradually over the next several years until they charge $2.46 per lunch.
Curran said the goal is for every district to get to the amount of money that the government’s giving students for free lunches.
Lunch prices will go up for elementary student’s lunch to $2.25; and secondary student’s lunch will be raised to $2.30. The adult lunch will remain at $3.60. Extra milk will remain 65 cents. Reduced price lunch will still be 40 cents.
