Berks County Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner Jonn M. Hollenbach released the name of the victim who drowned at “The Rock” on Sunday as 26 year old Essam Saba, of Allentown.
According to the Republican Herald, the victim attempted to swim across the Schuylkill River by entering the water at a nearby beach about 1:50 p.m. and began to struggle as he swam across and ultimately drowned.
Hollenbach said an autopsy Sunday evening at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading, showed that Saba’s death was “consistent with freshwater drowning,” although his office will not determine a cause or manner of death until toxicology results are complete.
And though the investigation is ongoing, Hollenbach said it is being treating it as an accident.
