The Pottsville Area school board once again voted Wednesday to reject the Gillingham Charter School’s application to remain open for another five years.
According to the Republican Herald, Pottsville Area Superintendent Jeffrey S. Zwiebel said the bottom line is the education not only of the students in the district, but all the students that attend Gillingham Charter School.
Zwiebel went on to say that he has very grave concerns for the educational well-being of the students at Gillingham.
Rachel Bensinger, Gillingham’s director of organizational development, said in an effort to keep the doors of the first charter school in Schuylkill County open, Gillingham will appeal to the Charter School Appeal Board, in Harrisburg.
Since the rechartering process will continue into the 2016-17 school year, Gillingham plans to begin its sixth school year on Aug. 29.
