A Mount Carmel woman is facing charges after the vehicle she was driving struck the home of Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph Groody, on Monday night.
Ashland police said Melanie L. Rooney was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer that struck the Groody home at 23 and Walnut streets.
Police said Rooney was driving west on Walnut Street at a high rate of speed when she drove through several stop signs, including the one at 23rd and Walnut streets, jumped a curb and traveled across the lawn before hitting the Groody home.
Police said that Rooney exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later in the area of the Gitman Shirt parking lot.
The woman was taken to a Pottsville hospital for injuries she suffered to her face.
No one inside the home was injured, but the residence sustained both exterior and interior damage.
Police said numerous charges are pending against Rooney as the result of the accident.
