The Pine Grove Police Department and the Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Department have announced that they will now be carrying Narcan.
The drug is a fast-acting overdose antidote that blocks the effects of heroin and opiates on the brain.
According to the Republican Herald, Pine Grove Police Chief Thomas Trotter and officers from his department and the sheriff’s office attended a training session Monday.
The Pottsville Bureau of Police also carry Narcan. Jason Snyder, communications director with the state Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, said to their knowledge Pottsville was the only police department carrying Narcan in the county as of Monday.
