A state police trooper, who was seriously wounded in the 2014 sniper attack outside the Blooming Grove state police barracks, has notified the alleged shooter Eric Matthew Frein, along with his parents that he intends to sue.
According to the Republican Herald, a Scranton attorney recently filed court documents on behalf of Trooper Alex T. Douglass, of Olyphant, against Frein and his parents, Eugene and Deborah Frein.
A sniper opened fire outside the barracks on Sept. 12, 2014, wounding Douglass and killing Trooper Bryan K. Dickson III, of Dunmore.
As of April, Douglass underwent 17 surgeries and spent nine months in and out of the hospital.
Eric Frein was named a suspect shortly after the shooting. He evaded capture for 48 days in the woods of Monroe and Pike counties before he was discovered near an abandoned airport hangar in Monroe County.
He pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial in Pike County Court on charges of homicide, aggravated assault and multiple other offenses.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
