New issues have surfaced with the structurally unsound Mahantongo Parking Center.
According to the Republican Herald, city officials inspected the parking garage Monday night after bricks were seen protruding from the northeast exterior wall.
However, since the contractor received notice to proceed Monday, the demolition will soon be able to get underway.
The city council awarded the $305,000 contract to SDL Construction, Orwigsburg, which has 10 days to begin the project.
The garage must be down within 60 days after demolition begins.
The structure has been closed since October 2016 when a contractor doing maintenance work found deteriorated structural reinforcing.
