Residential customers, of PPL Electric Utilities, who elect not to shop around for better rates, will pay slightly less for electricity this winter.
Households that rely on PPL to purchase electric supply on their behalf will see the rate drop to 7.44 cents per kilowatt hour, down from the current rate 7.49 cents per kwh.
However, the rate for the power generation portion of small business customers’ bills will increase from 6.66 cents per kwh to about 7.2 cents per kwh.
For an average residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per month, the savings will be less than dollar a month, while the monthly bill for the average small commercial customer that uses 1,000 kilowatts will increase by about $5.
The new price-to-compare rates will take effect Dec. 1.
