Traffic light running...

A dangerous intersection that has claimed lives in Schuylkill County has been upgraded.

After years of being put on the back burner, traffic lights have been installed at the intersection of 209 and State Route 901 on the Pottsville Minersville Highway.

Supervisors tried for years to have traffic lights installed in the heavily traveled area. Sean Brown, safety press officer for the state Department of Transportation, District 5, Allentown, said 16,395 people travel through that area daily.

And now, after five months of construction, the work is about 95% complete and the lights, which have been up for a few weeks, flashing yellow, are running as planned.

The estimated completion, for minor details, of the project is May 23.
