Schuylkill County will start sending prisoners to a sixth county, as the commissioners have approved an agreement with Northumberland County to accept inmates.
According to the Republican Herald, there are 69 inmates in other counties’ prisons, including 44 in Centre, 12 in Columbia, 11 in Lackawanna and two in Berks.
The county spent $1,515,210.26 on outsourced inmates in 2018 as overcrowding at the prison continues to be an issue.
