Primary Election...

In Tuesday’s spring primary, registered Republicans and Democrats in Schuylkill County will choose not only their parties’ nominations for county commissioners, row officers and some state judicial offices, they will select candidates for local government among the county’s 36 townships, 30 boroughs and the City of Pottsville.

According to the Republican Herald, they will also vote for a magisterial district judge in the county’s western section. The City of Pottsville is governed by a mayor and four-member council who serve for four years.

Two council seats are up for election this year as are the offices of controller and treasurer.

Candidates in the primary are running for their party’s nomination for the office they seek and, if they win, they must run in the Nov. 5 General Election.
