The Gillingham Charter School Board of Trustees on Thursday voted 5-0 to appeal Pottsville Area’s latest decision to reject the charter school’s application to remain open for another five years.
According to the Republican Herald, Gillingham must file that appeal with the Charter School Appeal Board, in Harrisburg, by Aug. 5.
On Dec. 2, the Pottsville Area school board rejected Gillingham’s application for a second five-year charter. Then on July 6, after reviewing a report from the hearing officer, the Pottsville Area school board once again voted to reject the Gillingham Charter School’s application to remain open for another five years.
Since the rechartering process will continue into the 2016-17 school year, Gillingham plans to begin its sixth school year on Aug. 29 with about 260 students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12.
