The Pottsville Free Public Library’s board of trustees is looking for additional funding sources now that the Pottsville Area School District has announced it will not be providing its annual $55,000 contribution this year.
According to the Republican Herald, in late July, the school district informed the Pottsville Free Public Library and Port Carbon Janet Eich Public Library that it did not include the annual contributions in its 2016-17 budget, which was approved in June.
The Pottsville Free Public Library serves as the headquarters for the Schuylkill County library system and provides a portion of that funding to other libraries.
The trustees also plan to attend the school board’s September meeting to stress the importance of the library to public education.
