Grading changes at Pottsville...

The grading system at the Pottsville Area High School has been used for decades, but that is about to change.

According to the Republican Herald, Principal Tiffany L. Reedy said the 2016-17 freshman class at Pottsville Area High School will be the first class in the high school to be analyzed by a new grading system, the first major overhaul of the system in at least 40 years.

The old system uses letter grades with numerical equivalents, however in the new system, letter grades and grade ranges are different than the previous system.

In the 2016-17 school year, the system will be used for freshmen. In the 2017-18 school year, the system will be used for both freshmen and sophomores. The system will then add juniors and seniors, each year, accordingly, to the new grading system into the 2019-20 school year.
