A Coaldale man, who was found guilty of beating a friend to death with a shovel in 2014, plans to appeal his conviction and sentence to the Pennsylvania Superior Court.
Court reports show that Stanley E. Kralik’s defense lawyer, Claude A.L. Shields, has filed an intent notice with the Schuylkill County district attorney’s office, though the notice does not include details of the reasons for the appeal.
Shields had unsuccessfully tried to have the case moved to juvenile court because Kralik was 16 when he, along with another friend, 23 year old Oliver L. Trizarri, killed Corey M. Samuels.
Kralik, now 18, was found guilty, on June 22, of third-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy and was sentenced by Judge John Domalakes on Aug. 12 to spend a total of 20 to 40 years behind bars for his role in Samuels’ murder.
Trizarri pleaded guilty on Feb. 19 to conspiracy and third degree murder. He’s serving 15-30 years in prison.
Police allege Kralik and Trizarri lured Samuels into the woods at the end of Miner Street in Coaldale on the night of Jan. 20, 2014, and beat him to death. Samuels’ remains were not found until Sept. 6, 2014.
