23 year old Malea M. Schoffstall, of Minersville, received probation Wednesday in Schuylkill County Court after pleading guilty in two unrelated cases. However, she is still facing charges in connection with her daughter’s death in May 2014.
Schoffstall pleaded guilty to charges of theft in one case and false identification to law enforcement in the other after the incidents that took place Feb.3 and March 11, in Cass Twp., and Pottsville.
Schuylkill Haven borough police also charged Schoffstall and 25 year old Dennis J. Wiederhold, of Auburn, with endangering the welfare of children, after their daughter, Maya and Layla Bertil, were discovered in the pair’s residence which was in poor condition, with drug paraphernalia all around it.
According to police Maya Wiederhold, who was only 3 months old, was found unresponsive with a blue face on her parents’ bed and later pronounced dead at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street.
