Mother Teresa is now Saint Teresa of Calcutta and while the official ceremony took place at the Vatican, a full day of events were planned to celebrate St. Teresa in Schuylkill County, at a church named for the iconic nun who made helping the poor her mission.
Parishioners and friends filled the church to mark the canonization, Sunday, which is now named for St. Teresa of Calcutta, and they remembered her visit there in 1995.
Bishop John Barres, of the Diocese of Allentown, said while St. Teresa may be celebrated around the world, to people in Mahanoy City she will always be a local hero.
