Fire ruled accidental...




A fire that destroyed a large farmhouse in North Manheim Township on Tuesday has been ruled accidental. 

According to the Republican Herald, State police fire marshal Trooper John F. Burns, of the Frackville station, said his investigation revealed the fire at 57 Glenworth Roadstarted inside the house, in a wall in the area of an outside hot tub, and spread from there. 

No one was home when the fire started and no injuries were reported.

 Burns said an estimate of damage is not yet available.

Fire ruled arson...




A fire at the Tamaqua Salvation Army has been ruled arson. 

According to Skook News, State Police at Frackville said the Tamaqua Fire Department responded to the Salvation Army located at 105 Broad Street for a structure fire on May 12.

 An investigation by State Police Fire Marshal Trooper Joseph Hall led to the finding that fire started at two points of origin in the rear storeroom which led to police ruling the fire as arson. 

Hall also stated in his report that video surveillance shows nobody entered or left the building just prior to the fire. 

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Tamaqua Police.

Additional Charges filed...




A woman accused of dumping hundreds of tires, in Schuylkill County, appears to be in even more trouble. 

Authorities say 61 year old June Kuzowski, of Schuylkill Haven, had been charged with scattering more than 300 tires in the parking lot of the former Days Inn hotel, near Cressona. 

Then on Tuesday, police said Kuzowski was at a business along Route 61 removing some of the tires from a U-Haul truck when a few of them hit someone's Lexus.

 Kuzowski is now facing criminal mischief in addition to her previous charges.

Fire destroys home near Mt. Carbon...




A fast moving fire destroyed a North Manheim Township home Tuesday morning. 

According to the Republican Herald, firefighters were called to 57 Glenworth Road and found the south side deck of the large, two-story home engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to the home and the front porch. 

The fire is thought to have originated in an area near an outside hot tub. 

No cause has yet been determined and those living at the residence were not home when the fire started. 

No injuries were reported.

Fire in Mt. Carmel...




Two homes were severely damaged by fire, early Tuesday morning, in Northumberland County. 

According to Skook News, emergency personnel were dispatched to 434 North Walnut Street, Mount Carmel for a working house fire. 

Fire personnel from Northumberland County along with Ashland, Girardville, and Mahanoy City units responded to the scene to aid in fighting the fire as well as backup for the borough.


The fire severely damaged the home at 434 as well as a home next to it. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Body Found...




State police from Reading were called to the scene, of a death, in Branch Township, on Tuesday. 

According to the Republican Herald, five members of “partial major case team” were investigating after being called out for the death of a man between 55 to 65 years old who lived at 1411 Bunting St. 

The man was found under a vehicle and pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Albert Barnes before the police arrived on scene. Barnes said they were going to obtain a search warrant for the property to look for evidence after noticing some strange things. 

Lt. Scott J. Brennan, crime section commander Troop L, said a time of death had not been determined and would not confirm if the man was the owner of the property.

Fire at Recycling Co...




No one was injured in a blaze, at a Dauphin County recycling company, Monday that drew more than a dozen fire companies to respond from Dauphin and Schuylkill counties.

 According to the Republican Herald, crews were called at approximately 3:30 p.m. to One Stop Recycling at 1855 Pottsville St. 

Terry Sherman, chief of Lykens Liberty Hose Company No. 2 said although the fire’s cause is unknown, there were approximately 20 junk vehicles on fire when firefighters arrived but no buildings were damaged.

Police in Schuylkill County are partnering with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to get drunk drivers off the roads and help save lives for the 2019 Labor Day holiday.

 Local law enforcement said they will show zero tolerance for drunk driving. 

Drivers are urged to download NHTSA’s SaferRide mobile app, available on both Google Play for Android devices and the iTunes Store for IOS devices.

 Citizens are also urged to call 911 if they see a drunk driver. 

The high-visibility national enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, begins Wednesday and will run through Sept. 2.

Spotted Lantern-fly causes concern...




The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is still battling the spotted lanternfly — an invasive pest native to Southeast Asia. 

The bug first appeared in Berks County in 2014, but has since spread to multiple counties. 

Pennsylvanians are asked to continue reporting spotted lanternfly sightings to the state’s department of agriculture, as homeowners may be eligible for the treatment, as long as they sign a release. 

Reports will be entered into a database, so the USDA can reach out to offer tree treatment as funding becomes available.

Victim ID'd...




A Tremont man has been identified as the victim in a one vehicle crash in Reilly Township late Sunday.

According to Skook News, State Police at Schuylkill Haven said 50 year old Keith Eichert, was travelling south on Route 209 when the truck he was driving left the roadway and struck a large tree. 

Eichert was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Albert Barnes.

 Route 209 was closed for about 2 hours after the crash while state police investigated.

See Something...Say Something...




If you see something, say something has long been the advice by federal, state and local police. 

There is also an app that allows people to send a message to police if they see something suspicious. 

The app “See Something Say Something,” was originally launched in 2013 but is now available locally and nationwide. You can remain anonymous when you report by the mobile app. 

State police do stress however, if there is an active situation, do not use the app and instead call 911.

Police investigating death...




State Police are investigating the death of a man in Girardville. 

According to Skook News, authorities said a 67 year old male was found deceased in his home on North 2nd Street in Girardville, late last week. 

A Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner was called to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. 

State Police have not released any details yet and say the investigation into the death is still pending.

Dumping Charges...




A Schuylkill Haven woman, along with two juveniles, were charged for disposing over 300 tires on the lot of a former motel in North Manheim Township. 

According to Skook News, State Police at Schuylkill Haven responded to a call on Saturday, August 10, involving individuals disposing tires onto the parking lot of the former Days Inn, located just North of Cressona. 

When troopers arrived, they determined 61 year old June Kuzowski had two 15 year old juveniles load at least 330 tires from an auto garage, then transport the tires with a UHaul to the parking lot with the intent to dispose of the tires onto the lots. 

Charges have been filed through Magisterial District Judge James Ferrier's office.

Fatal crash...




A Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner was called to the scene of a crash in, Reilly Township near Tremont, late Sunday.

 According to Skook News, it was just after 9:00pm when emergency personnel were dispatched to 133 Tremont Street, Route 209, for a one vehicle crash. 

Not long after crews arrived, a Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner was called to the scene. 

There is no word yet on the identification of the victim, or what caused the crash. We’ll have more details when they become available.

Cruise...




The Great Pottsville cruise is set for Saturday and police have issued a traffic advisory ahead of the annual event. 

Temporary traffic restrictions will be in place as well as parking restrictions beginning at 12:30pm. 

Roadways will be closed to all vehicle traffic other than cruise participants between 2:00pm and 9:30pm in North Centre, Race and Arch Streets.

Dams to be removed...



 

The state Department of Environmental Protection Secretary, Patrick McDonnell announced Wednesday, that the Kernsville and Landingville dams soon will be removed. 


According to the Republican Herald, McDonnell did not giving a timetable for either dam’s removal, but said the department intends for each to be taken down as soon and as safely as possible. 


McDonnell said Kernsville is a priority because there have been several drownings in the Schuylkill River at the nearby Peace Rock. T


he Landingville Dam is located in South Manheim Township between Landingville and Lake Wynonah. 


McDonnell visited Carbon and Schuylkill counties on Wednesday as part of a three-day tour of DEP’s Northeast region.
